garden of Gethsemane

The Garden of Gethsemane (gethsemane meaning 'olive press') has olive trees galore. We were all encouraged to find an olive tree and meditate on what our Lord went through for us.

I chose this tree with the hole in its trunk. It was so moving to see that Jerusalem is very close to this place. Jesus could see the temple and anticipate what was coming. To me, it would be like his heart being ripped out at this place where he cried out to let this cup pass (not my will but yours be done)
Olive trees can grow very old. Sometimes the trunk gets cut off and a new shoot takes it place. Some olive trees on this hill (Mount of Olives) are so old that the root system was around during the first century.
